Sound Praxis presents improvised, creative, and experimental music. and sound from artists working across genres and idioms. Since 2023, the series has fostered a welcoming, supportive, and expressive space for artists and attendees in, around, and beyond San Diego, CA. Sound Praxis celebrates human uniqueness, plurality, and coexistence, both in an aesthetic sense of encouraging multiple genres, idioms, and orientations to overlap and cross-pollinate and in a practical sense of fostering relationships between performers, listeners, and everyone in between. It emphasizes the freedoms arising from individual expression and congregation, and embraces the boundless possibilities inherent in even the smallest the creative act.
“the fact that [a person] is capable of action means that the unexpected can be expected from [them], that [they are] able to perform what is infinitely improbable. And this again is possible only because each [person] is unique, so that with each birth something uniquely comes into the world.”
- Hannah Arendt
Sound Praxis has been generously hosted by Best Practice, Foodshed Hub, Folk Arts Rare Records, and the Brown Building.
